About the Author
Dr. Jerrold S. Greenberg is a Professor in the Department of Public and Community Health at the University of Maryland. Dr. Greenberg earned his baccalaureate and masters degrees from The City College of New York, and then continued his education at Syracuse University where he earned his doctorate. Dr. Greenberg has taught at Syracuse University, Boston University, and the State University of New York at Buffalo before accepting his current position at the University of Maryland in 1979. Dr. Greenberg has written over 50 books on such topics as elder care, health, stress management, physical fitness, sexuality, and methods of health education. In addition, he has published over 80 articles in professional journals and lay magazines. Among Dr. Greenberg's honors are included: the University of Maryland Service-Learning Advocate of Year Award for 2003-2004; the American School Health Association's Distinguished Service Award; selection as Alliance Scholar by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance; the Presidential Citation, the Certificate of Appreciation, and the Scholar Award of the American Association for Health Education; selection for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Outstanding Young Men of America, and Who's Who in World Jewry. Dr. Greenberg has also served on the Editorial Boards of the professional journals, Health Education and The Journal of School Health; and as a reviewer for other professional journals. In addition, Dr. Greenberg has conducted stress management workshops for professional, business, and lay organizations throughout the United States.

Didn't Even Receive It

I ordered this book in the beginning of January, expecting it to be delivered by the beginning of February, (this was also according to their shipping statement). It was the 7th of February and I still hadn't received my book. I submitted a claim to Amazon.com, and luckily they gave me my money back. I wouldn't trust this company period.

About the Author
RICHARD STARKINGS learned the ropes of comic book production at Marvel UK in London. Moving to California in 1989 he founded the Comicraft studio with John ‘JG’ Roshell and together they revolutionized the art of comic book lettering & design -- introducing US publishers to the practice of digital lettering (covered in detail in their book COMIC BOOK LETTERING THE COMICRAFT WAY) which is now the industry standard. Starkings created the HIP FLASK character as a mascot for Comicraft's line of comic book fonts before developing the critically acclaimed UNNATURAL SELECTION storyline which details the origin of HIP FLASK and THE ELEPHANTMEN.

JOHN ROSHELL a.k.a. Gaushell, JG, Mr. Fontastic and Comicrafts Secret Weapon, graduated from UCLA with a Design degree in 1992, and has since achieved his life-long goal of revolutionizing the comic book lettering industry, one letter at a time.

Useful and Inspiring, a great book

Ive had this book less than a week, and it's teachings have impacted my art process already. The impact is felt in so many different ways. In my first week, this is what this book has done for me:

1. I am inspired again for the use of Illustrator to complement my work in Photoshop. Including designing word balloons, titles, special affects and ANYTHING to do with text.

2. The tips and tricks on how to work with certain features in Illustrator will allow you to do ANYTHING you can think of to accent your pages with razor sharp computer designs.

3. The step by step instructions allow you to make word balloons, change text, flip colors and line weights...what can you think of? The instructions on how to do it are likely in this book.

This book will inspire and instruct and give you enough to set you on the way to do your own lettering to make your comic pages look professional and have the impact they deserve. Highly recommended book. I would only say that the buyer will need Photoshop, and Illustrator to execute the processes taught in this book.

This book is so confusing and poorly laid out. It's also a sales book for their online font family.

That being said it's a fin book for my comic book how-to collection and if you can manage to read the insanely packed and convoluted text it's a pretty interesting window into the history and process of moving from hand written comic book lettering to fonts specifically for comics.

Showing it's age but still really good

I sat down and read this really quickly. About half the book is real instruction and information and the other half is a fake comic book with examples of what is being talked about. I really loved the instruction but I glossed over the comic book because I found it kinda meh and I didn't personally feel like it added to it. However, the info is really good and if you are an Illustrator user, like me, you'll likely learn a few new tricks. I learned about 4 new things I've already been able to turn around and put into use. There is also a PDF version of this book you can download if you buy one of the premium fonts on the Comicraft website.

Relevant, Irresistible, Endearing

Like the author, I too read and loved Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book stories of Mowgli and Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. It was with frustration and disappointment then, that when I tried to share those wonderful stories with my own children, I discovered they were no longer relevant. My children weren't interested; I think because they are simply outdated. When this book, Running Wild, was recommended to my seven year old by her friend's mother, I let her read it first, knowing only that it had something to do with the Boxing Day Tsunamis and was a lovely story for children. When I read it myself afterward, I found that I was reading an updated Jungle Book. With brief references to the Iraq War, the story focuses largely on the effects of deforestation in a way that appeals to children. I think the book would most suit pre-teens and teenagers, but younger confident readers and adults will love most parts of this book too.
I now want to read more from this author for myself, not just for my kids. Definitely recommended as the best kids book I've read since Harry Potter.

Fantastic Read!

This is a fantastic story about a boy who's father is killed in Iraq and who travels to Indonesia with his mother "to get away from it all" - only to be struck mid-vacation by The Boxing Day tsumani. The boy is astride an elephant at the time, and the elephant flees into the jungle just before the wave hits, taking the boy with him. The boy spends a year alone in the jungle with the elephant, learning to survive by understanding the laws and spirit of the jungle. He has encounters with a tiger, a troop of orangutans... What's brilliant about this book is that although it is not a true story, it is highly believable. Animals are the central characters of the book, but they are realistically depicted and their behaviors are true and accurate - not fantastical as they would be in, say, a Disney film. A beautiful book that exposes children to the very real and very rich emotional lives of animals - and what is at stake if the rain-forest continues to be destroyed. The emotional lives of the orangutans as depicted in the book is particular poignant.

Never disappointed with Morpurgos work! Written from a childs prospective he always manages to conjure up the emotions and feelings of a child. Full of imagery,drama and informative..one has a fun read and always learns so much in the process!My youngest son is now reading it... Well done Michael!
